STIVASUR and SHATA sign Memorandum of Understanding to promote responsible hospitality

The Foundation for Responsible Alcohol Consumption Suriname (STIVASUR) and the Suriname Hospitality and Tourism Association (SHATA) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in promoting responsible hospitality practices across Suriname’s tourism and hospitality sector.

The agreement was signed during a formal meeting attended by key representatives from both STIVASUR and SHATA, including Diana  Halfhide and Margarita van der Zwart (STIVASUR), and Egon Von Foidl, John Costello and Jerry A-Kum (SHATA).

This partnership marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance Suriname’s reputation as a safe, welcoming, and socially responsible destination. Through this MoU, both organizations commit to a shared vision: integrating responsible alcohol service into the broader hospitality and tourism experience in Suriname.

Promoting responsible hospitality practices plays a key role in creating safe and enjoyable environments for both visitors and staff.

Key areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU include:

SHATA has expressed its interest in becoming an affiliate member of STIVASUR, thereby encouraging its member organizations to participate in the EVAS training and pursue certification.

The partnership enhances Suriname's reputation as a responsible and conscious destination, where quality hospitality is aligned with the well-being of guests.

The collaboration between STIVASUR and SHATA highlights the importance of shared responsibility and sector-wide standards in contributing to a safer, healthier and more conscious future for Suriname.
